A Purpose Artisans drumming performance is a full-body, full-sensory experience. The beat doesn’t just live in the background, it takes center stage, commanding attention and inviting participation. At community performances, for instance, John and Nicole opened with a call-and-response drumming sequence. The audience, adults, kids, elders, are immediately drawn in, clapping to the rhythm. As the tempo built, the air changed. Drums pulsed in layered polyrhythms, each beat falling like a heartbeat into the space. The sound was both ancient and electric. By the time the last notes rang out, the entire room was vibrating, not just with sound, but with shared presence.
